Crewsaver Crewfit 275N Life Jacket

Crewsaver 275N Life Jacket

One of the most important items needed when kayak fishing is a good life jacket.

Whether you are a good swimmer or not, Having one to hand is always very important.

I was lucky enough to get a couple of these for free from a previous employer when I left.

These life jackets are as good as it gets when an extra buoyant life jacket is needed
.

They are super slim and do not interfere with the wearer whilst on.

They are nice and light for what they are, Compared with other brands in their category.

The reason I wear a 275N extra buoyant life jacket, Is due to the clothes we wear when fishing in the cold.

I don’t like drysuits and have managed to stay away from them so far in my kayaking expeditions.

Instead, I wear thin waterproofs and nice warm normal fishing clothes underneath. Meaning if I fall out I will soak up water like a sponge.

I always carry a couple of towels and dry clothes in a dry bag,

So if I go overboard, I just make my way to the nearest dry land and get changed.

Warm-up then call it a day and head home.

So far I have not fallen out of my kayak and I’m going to try to keep it that way.

Anyhow, In this situation, a normal life jacket on even the strongest swimmer will not work.

You will end up in real trouble very quickly.

I also don’t always have my life jacket on, Even at sea. But this is always weather dependant and how far away jack is from me. Just in case the worst happens.

This is “NOT” recommended and you should “ALWAYS” wear your life jackets “AT ALL TIMES” whilst on the water!

Anyhow, Other than that.

This life jacket is inflated by using the mouthpiece and tested every 6 months.

The inflation gas canister and auto hammer are to be checked once a year.

I need to know our life jackets are in good working order, otherwise, we might as well not have them.

This life jacket features two high viz reflective bands, A full harness with leg straps, Auto and Manual inflation, and a whistle.

This life jacket
can be packed down and “Rearmed” after being used with a “Rearming Kit”.

Re-arming kits are available to purchase online.

(MAKE SURE YOU BUY YOUR LIFE JACKET AND RE ARMING KITS FROM REPUTABLE SHOPS ONLINE)

WE HAVE HAD ISSUES WERE STUFF ON EBAY HAS NOT BEEN FIT FOR PURPOSE AND NEEDED TO BE CHUCKED AWAY.

THESE SAVE YOUR LIFE DON’T GAMBLE WITH OTHER PEOPLES RUBBISH.

IF YOU CAN’T AFFORD A GOOD LIFE JACKET AND SAFETY EQUIPMENT THEN YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO KAYAK FISH.

Being a
small compact design.

It leaves the wearer free to fish and move about without being restricted.

Unlike a larger foam life jacket.

Also, Having nothing behind you on your back other than a couple of straps. Means a comfortable day fishing out on the water, With nothing digging in your back making you uncomfortable.

Saving lives

All the relevant safety info is on the tag on the rear or inside, Tucked away inside the life jacket.

Found by undoing the Velcro sides.

The tag/label contains information on when the life jacket was made.

The life jackets serial number, and model number for purchasing “Rearming Kits”.

If it does not have its original serial number I would have it professionally inspected.

It “should have” its own unique code from the manufacturer.

The tag/labels are sown for stamping after being professionally checked, Tested, and “Rearmed”.

If you don’t feel comfortable or confident “Rearming your life jacket yourself”. You can find a few shops online that offer “Rearming services” for you.

To be honest it’s super easy and I will add a “how-to” in the (Kayak Builds and Mods) when I need to redo mine.

It comes in a choice of two colours Red or Navy Blue. The Red is not a very nice colour and fades in the sun. Like an old ford escort and becomes a nice washed-out orange colour.

As you can see from the pictures, Mine is in lovely condition. Still, the same colour as when it was new a good few years ago now.

All in all, these life jackets are not cheap. Compared to other life jackets on the market.

People will tell you these extra buoyant life jackets are unnecessary, But I can assure you they are...

People die all the time from being sucked down wearing clothes that are to heavy soak up too much water.

The extra buoyant option is the one to go with when making a purchase.

There is “NO” price on safety, there really isn’t.

A suitable life jacket and a good radio are key when out on the water.

Don’t be fooled in thinking on a loch or huge reservoir you OK because there are “no waves”, There have been many people die in recent years due to not having the correct life jackets on.

Getting cold and mild hypothermia you can deal with but drowning you cannot.

These are a great life-saving piece of equipment. They are light, strong, and versatile and can be used in many fishing situations.

Without interfering with your fishing, Or comfort.

I would recommend one of these, As a must to anyone starting out, Replacing something not suitable for the task. Or old and outdated.

Please be safe on the water and happy fishing…

Thanks…
